ULFA leaders released on bail

ULFA ( United Liberation Front of Assam), an insurgent group active in Indian state of Assam, had been fighting for independent Assam since 1979. During this period, it had got almost 80% of its top leaders arrested by Indian security forces and are lodged in Guwahati ( state Capital of Assam). But Paresh BArua, the self styled ‘commander-in-chief’ of ULFA’s military wing has been absconding and without his arrest or surrender, ULFA is considered to be powerful enough to disturb peace in Assam.

Maoists declare 72-day ceasefire : reports

Reports says that Maoists in India has declared 72 day cease fire.

The news is on TV channels right now. But it is interesting that Maoists have declared ceasefire after few spate of attack on security forces inflicting heavy causalities. Recently, they had killed 24 EFR personals in a daring attack in West Bengal which resulted in suspension of its IG after series of events afterwords.

Operation Peace Hunt : Naxalite retort to Operation Green hunt

Maoists numbering 60 to 70, armed with automatic rifles, ambushed security forces in Silda (just 30km from Midnapore town) on Monday, killing 21 Eastern Frontier Rifle (EFR) jawans and abducting many injured soldiers, in the most devastating and daring Naxal attack in Bengal so far, at Belpahari, West Midanpore, West Bengal.

Amar Singh Expelled from SP, finally

Amar Singh along with actress-turned-politician Jaya Prada has been expelled from Samajwadi Party on Tuesday, 2nd February.

Amar Singh has reacted that it is blessing in disguise for him.

Few weeks ago, when Amar Singh resigned from all party posts, it was almost clear that Amar Singh will no longer be part of SP.

As per report, newly appointed SP general secretary, Mohan Singh announced that Amar Singh and Jaya Prada have been expelled for ant-party activities. He termed Amar Singh’s association as “intrusion of capitalism” in socialist Samajwadi Party.

Human Rights violation in Manipur : NHRC asks for reports

What may be the first of its kind, National Human Rights Commission, India has asked Manipur (North Eastern insurgency infested state in India) government to submit report on 111 police encounters in Manipur state. As per report, an NGO, Asian Center for Human Rights had filed written complaint of human rights violation to the NHRC ( National Human Rights Commission) a day after R.K. Sanjoaba was killed by police Oct 20, 2004.
